Original Artwork: Apple of His Eye
The artist behind “Apple of His Eye #5” used 177 vintage Washington apple box labels in its construction. These labels came from the Eastern Washington towns of Yakima, Cowiche, Wenatchee and Chelan, and were lithographed between ~1925 and 1950 for wooden boxes. The three layers give a high-relief effect and lighting angles can significantly enhance the relief and warm incandescent lights bring out the warm colors of the vintage lithographic inks. The English phrase “Apple of my eye” is a term of endearment which conveys the meaning of “a cherished possession.” Psalm 17:8 reads “Keep me as the apple of your eye.”
