Jambo Everybody! I hope you are all well, wherever you are and whatever you’re doing! We are healthy and happy here in Kenya, trying to take one day at a time with whatever God has put before us to do that day. Honestly, some days I feel like my life is just one ā€œthingā€ (challenge to face, conflict to resolve, issue to deal with, request to fulfill, etc.) after another and I find myself taking joy in the smallest, most simple things in life. Things like cooking a meal for people I care about. The excitement of the little kids when…

Jambo Everybody! Here I am again, with a million things swirling through my head, trying to narrow it down to what’s most important to share with you guys! If I were to share everything that has happened since my last letter, this update would be more like a book! This year’s rainy season has not been as wet and muddy as usual. We have been getting a good rain a few times a week, with the remaining days being sunny in the mornings and overcast in the afternoons. It has actually been quite mild and pleasant! The maize fields are…

Jambo Everyone! As always, I’ll start out talking about the weather. It has been raining most days, which is great for the farms, gardens, and MY favorite: flowers! A few months ago, I promised that in an upcoming letter, I would complain about the mud! LOL! Well, honestly, it hasn’t been that bad! My biggest complaint about it is the big paw prints on my carpet, courtesy of Hemi! That’s ok! He’s worth it! I’ll just get through rainy season the best I can, then I’ll take my rugs to the car wash to be pressure-washed! I am so proud…

Who We Are

May 1, 2025

[TRANSCRIPT]I remember walking through the gates of In Step Children’s home in Kenya, seeing the smiles, hearing the laughter. It was more than just a shelter. It was hope. At In Step, our kids do take a balanced diet. So by giving a kid balanced diet, definitely you will be sure that this child’s growth, her or his growth, is progressing well. And also, the child will be able to concentrate in class. Eating healthy food makes me think faster in school. Growing up in Kenya, I know what it’s like to face hardship. I’ve lived through it. But here,…

Rehema for Kids – Sheri

May 1, 2025

[TRANSCRIPT] My name is Sheri Nangala and I’ve been at In Step for 12 years. I’m excited because I’m going to university and I’m continuing with my studies, you know, to get my career. My favorite memories is when we are all together and we spend time together with all the kids and mom and dad. My dream is to live a purposeful life. A life that honors God and blesses others and lives a remarkable legacy in this world. The support of Mama Carla and Baba Jeff and the ministry it has helped me to always never give up…

Rebecca’s Story: Leaving Home

March 27, 2025

Today’s blog post comes from our volunteer missionary, Tammie Myslivecek, a retired school teacher from New York. Tammie and her husband, Dean, dedicate several months each year to serving as Assistant Directors at our children’s home and school. We are thrilled to celebrate five of our students who recently graduated from high school: Musa, Sheri, Rebecca, Sandra, and Brenda. Three of them have been accepted to Daystar University and will begin classes in May. However, Musa and Rebecca were interested in programs not available at Daystar, so we began searching for private, Christian institutions in Nairobi, Eldoret, or Nakuru. Mama…

March 2025 – New House Tour

March 13, 2025

Oops! In our excitement to send out the Jambo letter yesterday, we forgot to include this video of Mama Carla giving a tour of the new house. Here it is—check it out! A huge thank you to all of the private donors who generously gave to provide Baba Jeff & Mama Carla with this special place of rest. Jambo Everybody! Wow! It has been a while! Life just gets crazy sometimes! Here in Kenya, we are heading toward the end of dry season. It is so dry, there is literally dust in the air! You can’t avoid it! Just walking…

Jambo everyone! I hope you are all doing well as you wind down your summer activities and, for those of you with school-aged children, start a new school year! In Kenya, our kids have been enjoying a three-week break and are now heading into their final term of the 2024 school year! While home, the older kids enjoyed some planned activities like soccer tournaments, basketball camp, cooking, etc. But one of their favorite outings is always community service! During this break, our high school freshmen helped an elderly widow, while our junior high students served at another local children’s home. The…

Jambo everyone! Happy Independence Day to our American friends! I hope it was a good one for all of you! Here, obviously, it was just another Thursday, but I did spend some time thinking about family, barbeque, and fireworks… and the fact that, despite her downfalls, there is no place like home! Maybe I’m just feeling a bit nostalgic, as today marks twenty-one years since my feet first touched Kenyan soil! I have talked to a number of expats who say, “Kenya has become my home.” “I feel more at home here than I do in America (or whatever country they’re from).” “When I go to (insert…
