I sent out yesterday’s post before dinner, figuring the evenings had settled into a nice routine of dinner at our sleeping quarters, devotions with children at 7 PM, lastly return to our sleeping quarters for our 8 PM reflections. Nothing too exciting to report since we all are tired and asleep by 9:30 pm.
I was wrong about nothing too exciting… The children’s devotion is split into 4 groups. Older boys, younger boys, older girls and younger girls. It’s held inside the dormitory rooms so I can only attend the boys, etc. We have been going exclusively to the older kids’ devotion since they were leaving for boarding school. Now that they are away, we went to the younger kids’ (grade 1 – 6) devotions last night. The men enjoyed singing, praying, reading bible verses, and telling our testimonials with the kids. When we walked back to the clinic we started hearing singing outside our building…
The ladies also had been going to the older girl’s devotion until last night… Tammie M had brought glowsticks and the young girls walked her back home and were now serenading the dental team. They sang “This little light of mine is going to shine” while they danced and cheered and waved their glowsticks. It was one of the most moving moments I have ever experienced in my 6 trips to the children’s home.
These children have so little in material possessions but are so blessed with an abundance of joy. They help each other constantly, they praise Jesus Christ all the time and they continue to teach us volunteers what it means to love God and to love your neighbor…
